World War Z 2 was a planned sequel to the 2013 film World War Z, with Brad Pitt set to reprise his role as Gerry Lane and David Fincher attached as director. Fincher envisioned a more grounded, character-driven narrative, drawing comparisons to The Last of Us in its tone and focus on human survival amid a global crisis. One proposed storyline involved humanity developing a temporary vaccine that rendered individuals invisible to zombies, leading to efforts to eradicate the undead using a new biological weapon. However, this weapon risked making the zombies even more dangerous. Despite extensive pre-production efforts and plans to begin filming in 2019, Paramount Pictures canceled the project in February of that year. The cancellation was attributed to budgetary concerns and the Chinese government’s ban on films featuring zombies or ghosts, which posed significant challenges for international distribution.
